The Chikuma River runs through the village from east to west and joins the Saigawa River in Nagano Basin and becomes the Shinano River, which is the longest river in Japan with a total length of 367km. There is a sign post at the source of the river.

The Chikuma River is an ideal habitat for Chars and Yamame as it provides fresh cold water throughout the year.
